Crysis 2

From Jungle to jungle
Labelled as a concrete jungle, New York City isn’t going to be what we’re used to. Since the aliens have invaded and swarmed the city, it can be assumed that the place is going to be a mess. No longer floating warrior creatures with laser beams, the aliens have undergone a design change and now come equipped as armed and armoured bipedal stalking machines of war.
The change in scenery and enemy design will present the need to invent whole new tactics in tackling the enemy. Aside from the new and improved aliens, it is assumed that there will be some sort of human force (maybe even robotic) chasing players down on behalf of Crynet Systems. The landscape will become much more vertical as well, due to the tall tower blocks, meaning that battles won’t always be on the ground or at an even horizontal level. If an alien force really did invade New York, you could expect a lot of damage, so it’s most likely that not all of the buildings will still be standing. Guerilla warfare will be the favoured style here.

Crysis was praised for its graphical prowess, its attention to detail and the lush jungle environments, but Crysis 2 will blow that away. Using, for the first time, the new CryEngine 3, Crysis 2 is expected to surpass the visuals of its predecessor and with lower requirements than before. This look will hopefully make the world colourful, immersive and realistic. Just by looking at the realism of some of the character facial designs we can tell that Crytek are right on track making Crysis 2 look spectacular. After all, they have stated that the combat will be “catastrophically beautiful”. We don’t know what that means, but we sure as hell can’t wait to find out!
The multiplayer mode seems to be shaping up well too, with typical six on six team deathmatches that pit players against each other as one of two human teams, fighting it out across rooftops and streets that have seen better days. Not much on this mode has been revealed yet either, but we know that customisation, weapon wise, will indeed play a big part in how you play.
We’ve got a crisis!
While Crysis 2 currently remains a highly anticipated game, there is still much more to learn before its release, which is expected to be early 2011. Crytek seem to know what they are doing and with the jump to the consoles, Crysis 2 will become open to a larger community as well as the already established PC fan base. The single player looks to be an interesting experience, although much is speculated, while the multiplayer should have plenty of opportunity to become something great, providing Crytek can tick all the right boxes.
