Maps, Weapons, Characters
Besides the new game types there are four new maps to be found; Area 921, Lost Arena, Crossfire City and Assault Space. Area 921 is set in a desert area separated by a pipe line with two metal bases at opposite ends of the map. Lost Arena is center stage for giant VS battles with plenty of corridors surrounding the level for close on foot combat. Crossfire City with its many balconies for snipers to drool over and long open streets is perfect for intense VS gun fights. Assault Space takes place on a space ship; you can battle in and outside of the ship. There are also two new female and robot characters for you to customize and take online. Along with those characters there is now an option to have your camera angle first person or over the shoulder, like Gears of War or Resident Evil 4.
The weapons have got a nice upgrade too in Colonies. You can expect to see new attachments to your VS along with a few on foot firearms to help spice up those fire fights. VS enthusiasts will be happy to hear that four new weapons will be coming with this expansion. The VS Rifle, a great long range weapon for those hard distant shots). The Rocket Pod which is a great area effect weapon. It fires clusters of rockets to damage multiple foes with minimal effort. The Pile Bunker, a spear-esc projectile weapon that is lightning fast and the Laser Lance, a very deadly arc weapon.
Your on-foot arsenal is now much improved with the all new Hand Cannon, a handgun shaped rocket launcher that has devastating effects on humans and VS’s alike. Another addition is the Revolver, which can be somewhat difficult to use. However experienced players can land a kill with a single shot. Last ones are the Handgun – accurate basic handgun – and a Flame Launcher, extremely powerful flame based weapon that uses thermal energy for ammo. All this should make weapons junkies very happy.
Lost Planet 1.5
This game will not recognize your previous Lost Planet game save, so there is a new set of 1000 Gamerscore points available for you to slobber over. Taking a page from the Shadowrun book, Colonies will be cross-platform. So now you can kill your Akrid friends who are playing on the PC while sitting comfortably on your couch mounting a VS. Lost Planet: Colonies looks like it’s going to be a worth while double dip for Lost Planet fans and a great opportunity for new comers who missed out last year. Be sure to check it out when it hits store shelves later this year.
