Snake is back again

Bitter sweet?

And so it seems that this is Solid Snake’s last mission, but how will you be controlling him? Those who have played the series in the past will find a lot to be familiar from MGS2 and MGS3 but with a few key differences. In previous instalments, if you were going to jump a fence or move something, you had to run Snake right into it. However, now there will be an action button (similar to the Legend of Zelda games) when you get to a place where Snake can take an action. This will hopefully offset some of the more frustrating moments in the older games when trying to flee enemies but having trouble getting Snake just in the right spot to be out of sight. All said, minor changes have been made to make moving Snake around easier and less cumbersome than before.

Shooting has also been tweaked by moving the camera to a third-person perspective. Not only that, but an auto aim feature has been added to increase accuracy. We have also been told that the auto aim feature can be toggled off to allow for skilled snipers to go for that oh-so-sweet head shot.

The motto for this game is “nowhere to hide” which is a big change since the series has always been about stealth. Obviously combat play and trying to keep out of sight in a full-scale battlefield will be the cornerstones of this instalment. Whether the old fans of the series will enjoy this new type of gameplay or feel like the series is abandoning its roots remains to be seen, but the speculation for intense battle moment is certainly intriguing.

Snake? Snake? SNNNNNAAAAKKKKEEEEE!

If this is to be the last of the Metal Gear Solid saga, it seems to be setting up for an epic that brings all the entertainment, mystery, and characters from the previous games together and result in a glorious ending. But let us not forget that director Hideo Kojima is a master of deception and mind games and sometimes things are not what they seem when dealing with him. When it comes down to it, though, it does not matter if this is the final time we see our hero Snake do battle. What matters is that gamers will soon get a taste of the cream of the crop, a game that will give people something to talk about for the next long while and I expect nothing less from this game.
