Tommy in Wonderland
The ship you are abducted in, called the Sphere, is full of portals and mischievous gravity problems. One minute you can be walking through a level going straight and true and the next, the gravity has been flipped and you find yourself on a different side of the room. Sometimes it is the wall, others it is the ceiling. Sounds confusing at first but it seems like a great advantage for you when it comes to killing enemies. After all, there will be tons of them.
This ship is full of creatures that simply do not enjoy your company and their portals are everywhere. Some you can get through if you are quick enough to find hidden treasure and most you can't. Your foe will definitely be making good use of these and they will come in hordes from everywhere. So, backing yourself into a corner isn't always the best idea. They will still be able to come from behind you and love being tricky like that. You best defense is your tactics and your weapons.
Weapons can be found all over the place and most, with the exception of your spirit bow, will come from fallen enemies. The best thing about these weapons is that you don't have to include reload time during gameplay. You just have to make sure they don't overheat so conservation is the key. These weapons are very different and have some neat features that will have you wanting to kill more aliens just to see what their gun does.
No CTF here
Prey's multiplayer modes are very bare minimum without the bland taste. You shoot, you kill, you die, you re-spawn and do it all over again. What makes multiplayer enticing are all the gravity and off balance areas. Don't be surprised when you run into the same type of gravity switches. You can take full advantage of all the features found in the single player mode, in multiplayer.
The maximum amount of warriors allowed is 8 for both PC and Xbox Live. It's a small number but I doubt it will be noticed when you are flipping around walls and shooting people below you from high. You can choose to participate in deathmatches solo or in teams and you won't find any fancy options here; just good, run-n-gun fun.
Not long now!
Built on the enhanced Doom 3 engine, Prey seems like everything an FPS fan would want plus a few extra tweaks. A hardcore PC FPS player will automatically recognize the rhythm behind this game with the usual movements and weapons. Yet, it seems to be user friendly enough to aid those who are new to this genre.
Prey is scheduled to release July 10, 2006 for PC and Xbox 360. If it is an updated FPS with a traditional feel to it that you are looking for, look here. It's what you want with a good twist to it but will still bring some new features for everyone to enjoy. As mentioned before, the characters and their situations are pretty stereotypical for a Cherokee based story line, but Prey will still bring all its got to the table and possibly bring some new fans with it.
