The ancient city of Atlantis has been re-discovered from the heart of the mother Ocean... Secrets that have lain concealed for ages have been surfaced. The Atlanteans now unleash their ruthless might upon the puny human race. You struggle with your troops in the midst of elemental disasters and collapsing cities purged with plague trying desperately to wade off the hordes of the Atlantean army. Made up of bio-mechnoids, reptiles and dinosaurs that are tamed by the dark mages of Atlantis themselves, the future is looking grim. Welcome to Battle for Atlantis, Soldier!
Pedigree
Battle for Atlantis is in its final stages of development by World Forge and will be published by Play Ten interactive. Powering the game is a modified graphics engine from the game Sparta: Ancient Wars but playing the game, you would be hard-pressed to notice. The engine has been tweaked to render a completely different game world, one made up of both land a water, and there is a bit more focus on realism.
Obviously things behave differently in water than they do on land and a lot of attention has been put into ensuring that no matter where you are, objects obey the laws of physics. Creating realistic water bodies and turning the oceans from a 'dead area' into something that resembles the physical world, was high on the list of priorities. As a result, This is the first time in the history of the genre that tidal waves and Tsunamis are part of the actual gameplay. Players should be ready for some eye candy as as water twists and turns when water beasts like giant squids rise up from the depth of the ocean and start ripping apart your base.
Deceptive
The first thing players will notice upon entering the game is the vast landscape that the game offers. Littered with high-tech machines, vehicles, piles of scrap-metal and debris from things that have been blown to pieces, everything looks positively chaotic. The only exception is your base which -once it is finished-, should be a well equipped with high-tech weaponry that you need to fend of and defeat the enemy. But... looks can be deceptive. The Atlantean army puts up a tough fight and is armed with the strangest assortment of weapons ever to grace the planet. In short, you will need all the resources you can get your hands on to get through this war in one piece. Your own arsenal is made up of all sorts of goodies ranging from Mobile Tankers to Attack Helicopters that pack enough fire power to keep you warm throughout the entire winter.
