E3 2008 predictions

Nintendo

Don’t expect Nintendo to unveil any more hardcore games at E3. Instead expect a lot more shovelware, several minigame based sports titles, maybe including Wii Sports 2, and maybe, just maybe, one ‘hardcore’ title, such as a new Zelda or Animal Crossing. But don’t bet on it; Nintendo is doing fine just chasing after the casual market, and they have no incentive to change their ways now.
Microsoft
We all knew as soon as it was announced that Gears of War 2 was going to be Microsoft’s flagship game for this year, so that one’s obvious. But this year I think Microsoft will be chasing after the casual market more than their traditional hardcore one. I think they will debut their motion sensing controller along with a simple retail game, probably featuring the 360’s Miis as a big gimmick. Also, maybe a long awaited internet browser will be shown, along with a price cut to really compete with the Wii.
Sony
God of War 3. After Metal Gear Solid 4, PS3 needs a new big game on the horizon, and this is the perfect choice; it appeals to both the hardcore and the casual market, at least judging by the first two impressive sales figures.
Expect Sony to be improving their online service even more, and also expect Home to be dated, along with Little Big Planet. Also, maybe there will be another price cut, but don’t count on it.
