Corsair Void Wireless v2 Gaming Headset

Feature

Style and comfort

Style isn't the Void Wireless v2 Gaming Headset's strong suit. There, I said it. It has a plastic looking frame accentuated by the microfibre fabric detailing of the headband and ear cups. The on-ear controls are limited to two buttons and a volume control as well as the inbuilt boom microphone, further giving the headset a no-frills design. The earcups themselves are a strange shape, and are on the largish size. This may cause issues for younger gamers, as it may enable some wobbling around.

But having said all that, the ear cups are super comfortable. The memory foam is covered in breathable mesh microfibre fabric that moulded around my glasses frame nicely. Combined with the padded headrest and the lightweight frame, the Void v2 is perfect for long gaming sessions. Being lightness means that it is great for portability as it doesn't add much weight to a backpack. The fact that the ear cups can swivel flat increases the portability, allowing the headset to be packed flat. Wonderful.

The left earcup contains two buttons on the side - one for power and to switch between connectivity options, whilst the other is a multi function button. Holding the button down pairs the Bluetooth connection, whilst it also allows for answering and ending phone calls. When listening to music or watching videos, the multi-function button acts as a pause, and skip button. The volume control is a little disappointing, with it being more of a switch than a dial. It requires users to flick it multiple times to adjust the volume up or down to your liking rather than scrolling to the required volume. The left earcup also contains a USB-C input for charging. Disappointingly, the charging cable is rather short (around 50cm), so the Void Wireless v2 is not one you’ll be using whilst charging.

Each ear cup comes with an RGB strip, which can be configured from within the simple to use iCue software. I found that (as with most RGB on headsets) the RGB is more of an indicator for family that you’re on a call, as the wearer can't really see the lights unless they're on camera.

Performance

The battery on the Void Wireless v2 is probably the main feature for the headset. When connected via the 2.4Ghz dongle, the battery provided around 70 hours of use. But when connected via Bluetooth, this increased to just under 130 hours before needing a recharge. But as mentioned, if you run out of battery while in the middle of a game or a Zoom call, the charging cable is really short and won't allow chatting whilst it is charging. So, be sure to have the headset charging overnight or during a lunch break so that this does not become an issue.

The wireless headset has two connection options - via the 2.4Ghz USB dongle or via Bluetooth. The USB Dongle has a range of around 15 meters. This is generally enough to get me to the kitchen for a quick snack or a coffee without losing connection, enabling continued communication with my gaming squad, or my work colleagues. The Bluetooth connectivity allows the Void Wireless v2 to connect to a range of gaming devices. It was a simple matter of connecting to my PC and Steam Deck, my mobile and even the Nintendo Switch 2. I did find that if I put the headset down for a while, it would disconnect from the bluetooth connection and I would need to reconnect.

The Dolby Atmos Surround sound is wonderful…with the audio coming at you from all directions, which is perfect for FPS or action games where you need to know which direction an enemy is approaching from. This functionality is somewhat let down by the lack of bass. If you’re a fan of deep booming bass whilst listening to your favourite tracks (such as Massive Attack's Angel or The Prodigy's Diesel Power), you'll be somewhat underwhelmed.

The same goes for the microphone. The in-built microphone swings down when in use and moving it back up mutes the conversation. I found that although it was clear, it sounded like the voice was some distance away. Adjusting the distance from the mouth did not seem to make any difference. The microphone did a great job of limiting background noises such as me tapping away at my keyboard.

Verdict

Despite its lack of stylish flair, the Corsair Void Wireless v2 is a decent headset. It is a comfortable unit with the breathable mesh fabric allowing lengthy gaming sessions. And with the massive battery life with either of the two connection options, players can definitely have some uninterrupted playtime. The surround sound works wonderfully thanks to the Dolby Atmos, but lacks bass, But at 189 AUD it is a mid-priced wireless headset that enables long-lasting untethered gaming.
