Exclusive Card Reveal for Magic: The Gathering - Wilds of Eldraine
We at Hooked Gamers are please to reveal one such card from the fairy tales themed set - Callous Sell-Sword, a card that feels like it could have come straight out of the story of Snow White and one that gives players two options.
Card: – Callous Sell-Sword
Spell type (main): Creature – Human Soldier (2/2)
Spell Cost (main): One Black land, and one additional land
Spell (main): Callous Sell-Sword enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it for each creature that died under your control this turn
Card (adventure): – Burn Together
Spell type (adventure): Sorcery
Spell Cost (adventure): One Red Land
Spell (adventure): Target creature you control deals damage equal to its power to any other target. Then sacrifice it.
Card description:
With two options on how to play this card, Callous Sell-Sword / Burn Together gives players multiple strategies in which they can employ the card. Callous Sell-Sword is a reasonably cheap spell to cast (two mana), but given the spell, it would make sense to hold off casting it until after your main battle phase.
The Burn Together option seems more like a late game play to destroy an annoying enemy creature. Personally, I think this could be great value (especially with a mana cost of one) as a way of taking down a pesky flying creature when you don’t have a counter with Reach.
New and returning mechanics
Adventures
As indicated above, Adventure spells give the holder two options, one generally being a creature and the other a Sorcery or Instant with a lower mana cost.
Bargain
Bargain is a new ability that allows you to sacrifice an artifact, enchantment, or token as an additional cost to cast a spell.
Celebration
Celebrate is a new ability word that highlights abilities that care if two or more nonland permanents entered the battlefield under your control during the turn.
Role Tokens
Role tokens are seven new predefined tokens, each one an Aura with enchant creature. Six of them are created by cards in the main set. One card in the Commander decks adds the seventh.
As always, I'm looking forward to seeing how several of the new mechanics will play out as well as some of the other fairy tale themed cards. Hopefully we'll have more info about the set closer to launch on September 8th. In the meantime to read more about the upcoming set and to view some of the cards, visit the Wilds of Eldraine site.
