MLG to reorganise tournament structure

2011 was a big year for esports, and Major League Gaming enjoyed much of this success - reaching a total viewership of 3.5 million.

To kick off 2012, the pro league has announced a new seasonal structure for their tournaments. Headlining the winter season will be Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty, with three invite-only online regional qualifiers - 31 January - 2 February for Europeans, February 3-5 for Korea and Taiwan, concluding on February 6-8 for North America.

There will also be regional qualifiers for to-be-announced console titles. The top eight regional qualifiers will then be invited with the top 8 from last season to play for about $26,000 in prizes in New York from February 24-26, which will be streamed online.

New York will determine the pool placement for the Winter Championship in Columbus, Ohio, from March 23-25. This event will be viewable by the public as well as being streamed online.
