Please be gentle - it's my first time
Established in 2002, Dagger Games is a European software company based in Bulgaria. Chances are you won‘t recognise their name - yet. Leading the development for products based on the 3D engine, Dimensity will be the company’s first foray into the gaming world. So how will Dagger measure up against more established game designers?
Classy
Dimensity is a game in a similar style to World of Warcraft, Might and Magic and King’s Blood. Essentially, you own an army, which you direct through battles. This army is lead by a leader (who'd have guessed?), whose class and specialisation the player must choose at the beginning of the game.
There are a number of features to choose from, when creating your leader. The character can be either a Warrior or a Mage, which will affect the weapons they can carry, and the techniques they use while fighting. For instance, a mage will focus on more strategically and magical warfare, while a warrior will be somewhat more direct. Warriors will also be able to equip the heavier weapons and armour, such as huge shiny battle-axes, battle armour and shields. Please forgive my evil grin at this point - I've always been a very physical fighter. Both types of fighter will be able to equip bows.
Your leader also has four races to choose from, which will affect the magic that he focuses on, as well as his specific stats (leaders don't appear to be female, at least, not so far). Learning one kind of magic will not necessarily make another class unavailable. There are also some race specific pieces of armour and weapons. The choice you make for your leader will also affect the fighting style of your entire army.
Looting: The Tradition
The item drop system of Dimensity is interesting enough to warrant mention. The advanced system allows for the random generation of items after battle. The item will be based on the experience and characteristics of your leader, and the various factors of the item - magic bonuses, and racial bonuses, for instance - will also be randomly generated.
This randomization also allows for the occasional drop of extremely rare or powerful items, which will allow each game - and the power of your army and leader - to develop in a more organic way than usual.
