WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!
Hmmmmmm, what should I play today? Ahh yes, 420BLAZEIT2: GAME OF THE YEAR -=Dank Dreams and Goated Memes=- [#wow/11 Like and Subscribe] Poggerz Edition. Yep, that is the actual title of this game...what the actual f**k? From that, you can already tell that this game does not take itself seriously, but what might seem like a disaster of a game turns out to be upsettingly competent.
420BLAZEIT 2 is a fast-paced FPS sequel to the original hit game Game of the Year 420 Blaze It by Andy Sum of Normal Wholesome Games where you are placed in the shoes of top secret agent 69. the Illuminati have stolen all the world's memes and replaced them with their own. It's up to you to free them.
MUM GET THE CAMERA:
Along your...questionable journey, you will be deployed into the meme-verse and fight your way through hoards of Illuminati indulgers. With every Quick Scope, 360-Y-Y, Headshot and multi-kill, you are painfully swarmed Illuminati warped memes like a YouTube quick scoping compilation from 2014. There is even a slider in the settings with the name "MEME POWER" that allows you to pick the intensity of the memes, fittingly going from 0 to 69...because why wouldn't it?
There are 12 missions that are filled to the brim with enemies of different varieties such as Illuminati special forces, aliens and brain rot meme mini-bosses that mercilessly charge at you whilst playing a speed-up version of Beethoven's 5th symphony. Yeah, don't ask. To fight these malicious monstrosities, you are equipped with an arsenal of weapons including overpowered RPGs and miniguns. One of my favourite weapons is the frying pan and the melee weapons in general. You can deflect bullets, making you pretty much invincible, and the 'thonk' of the frying pan is just icing on the cake. However, I cannot forget the oz-salt rifle, which when shot yells slurs like "w*nker", "sh*thead" and "Dropkick" amongst other things. It is truly an Aussie rifle.
There are also pickups scattered across the maps, giving you different abilities such as gains, ant, laxatives, focus and retro wave to name a few. These pickup-ups add a whole other layer to the game as players can change their play style depending on what they have active. A lot of the time pickups are randomised, so if you die and respawn the experience still feels fresh.
BEHIND THE ROT:
Despite all of the jokes and indescribable level designs, 420BLAZEIT 2 has a legitimately good set of mechanics up its sleeve, the movement feels polished and well thought out. It feels like they took the movement from Black Ops 2 and added sliding and kicks - it's just perfect. To be honest, if it wasn't for how good the movement was, I would have played for about 20 minutes and that would have been enough for me. But I was having so much fun dodging bullets and merking scrubs that I completely forgot that the game I was playing is called 420BLAZEIT 2.
REPLAYABILITY:
420BLAZEIT 2 is fairly priced at $10.99 USD putting it in the 'inpulse buy' range. The game takes about 3 hours to complete with each mission being unique to itself, and although they look like absolute abominations at times, they are well thought out and riddled with secret weapons, easter eggs and collectables for OG 420 gamers to find. This also adds a level of replayability to the game as players can go back into the mission to complete challenges and find hidden rewards that they might have missed in the first run. Besides that, there is not much other reason to get back into the game after playing all the levels.
Keep in mind this game was not made to last forever. It is more steered towards popping off on release and gaining attention in the short term, then losing traction in the long run, much like its predecessor. Because of this, the secret unlocks and achievements are more than enough replay aspects for this type of game.
420BLAZEIT 2 offers a fun, nostalgic experience but is only for some. If you are into calm and storytelling games, this may not for you, but if you have an open mind and quite a few brain cells you are willing to lose, there is heaps of fun to be had here. When I first saw the game I thought it was going to be one of those low-effort money grabs, but there was genuine effort that was put into making this game polished and exciting for the player. 420BLAZEIT 2 can be replayed, but for the majority of players once will be enough, but that single experience is well worth the smaller price tag.
