Gulikit KK3 Max Wireless controller
Style and design
When the Gulikit KK3 Max Wireless controller arrived at our office, I must admit that I was a little underwhelmed by its appearance. But looks can be deceiving. The box was reasonably plain, but then upon opening the box, I was surprised to find two plastic cases, one that looked in the shape of a controller and one that had an array of buttons and paddles.
Like the box, the KK3 Max looks reasonably like a standard controller…that is until you get to add all the finishing touches to it. There are six paddles included and players can determine which ones they want to connect within the four locations available. Adding them is simply a matter of finding the matching location on the underside of the controller and snapping the paddles into place. And once the controller is connected and powered up, a set of LEDs light up around the thumbsticks. The KK3 Max is certainly a controller that places customisation at the forefront of its design.
The KK3 Max features a smooth matt finish, whilst the underside has a textured pattern on the underside, aiding players to get a comfortable grip. The matt finish does seem to attract fingerprints, but these are easily wiped off with a damp cloth.
Features and Performance
The KK3 Max boasts an impressive array of features, starting with its patented maglev vibration motor. This technology delivers a more immersive and realistic haptic feedback experience, enhancing the overall gaming immersion. The Hall effect joysticks and triggers provide exceptional accuracy and responsiveness, ensuring precise control in even the most demanding games. Like most controllers on the market, the KK3 Max includes trigger locks enabling faster response times when using the left and right trigger buttons.
One of the standout features of the KK3 Max is its customizable rear paddles. These detachable, swappable, and remappable paddles offer a more ergonomic and efficient way to perform actions that would typically require awkward button combinations. There are four underside paddles that gamers can connect, although personally I found that the two paddles on the right side were optimal, as my left hand was controlling the thumbstick most of the time. And although the paddles stick out a little, I found that this was preferable to controllers with underside buttons, as the paddles are easier to use. The controller also includes a PC button kit, allowing you to customize the button layout to your preference.
Connectivity is another area where the KK3 Max excels. It offers both wired and wireless options, with 1000Hz connectivity ensuring minimal input lag. The included hyperlink adapter expands its compatibility, making it suitable for a wide range of devices. The bluetooth connection allows gamers to connect to a Nintendo Switch or a mobile device.
Battery Life and Ergonomics
The battery life on the KK3 Max is decent, with around 15 hours when the LEDs are lit up, and around 24 hours without. If you're gaming for longer than that, you should probably take a break. However, if the battery is getting low, the included ribbon style USB cable effectively turns the controller into a wired device. The controller's ergonomic design, with comfortable grips and well-placed buttons, ensures long gaming sessions without fatigue.
Verdict
The GuliKit KK3 Max Wireless controller is a versatile and high-performance controller that caters to both PC and mobile gamers. Its customizable features, precise controls, and immersive haptic feedback make it a compelling option for those seeking a premium gaming experience. Whether you're a competitive FPS player or a casual gamer enjoying co-op titles, the KK3 Max is worth considering, especially considering it is in the budget price range for a wireless controller.
