Cataclysm Tops 4.7 Million in First Month, Blizzard Keeps Breaking Own Records

Blizzard announced today that the newest expansion for their king of all MMOs, World of Warcraft, sold just over 4.7 million in its first month. Day one sales accounted for about 3.3 million of the first month's figures.

Okay, this is getting ridiculous. Can't somebody sell a game faster than Blizzard? Stupid question, I know.

Cataclysm is now the fastest-selling PC game of all time, a record that was previously held by none other than the last WoW expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.

"We’ve been floored by the community's response so far, and we'd like to thank them for their continued passion and support for World of Warcraft, and for helping Cataclysm reach this incredible milestone," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment.

At this rate, I expect the record will be broken again in a few years, with WoW's as of now unannounced, unconfirmed fourth expansion.
