Sword Coast Legends first-look video
With Pillars of Eternity nearly upon us and a spiritual successor to Planescape Torment not too far off, we could well be on the cusp of a new golden age of computer RPGs. The crowd spoke: they wanted to see a return to smart and tactical RPGs. Industry big-wigs might’ve been done with “old” isometric, Infinity Engine style tales, but the players weren’t.
In a lot of ways, the newly announced Sword Coast Legends seems like developers and producers responding to what people said they wanted. Like the classic Baldur’s Gate games – the centre of so much nostalgia– Legends is a Dungeons & Dragons RPG set in the world of Faerun.
Developers n-Space and Digital Extremes, head by Dan Tudge (director of Dragon Age: Origins), have released a ten minute “first look” video of the game. Set in the city of Luskan (north of Neverwinter), it looks to be a fairly typical campaign – all lively taverns and turn-based fighting in dank sewers. Whilst it might not be pushing any boundaries, it looks solidly Baldur’s Gate-like, and that’s all we really want, isn’t it?
If one thing needs changed, it’s that dwarf’s awful Scottish accent. How hard can it be to find a true Scotsman to yell a few lines? Check the video below!
