LEGO teases new racing game
In a surprise twist, the LEGO Group yesterday announced, in a tongue-and-cheek animated teaser trailer, that they are partnering with 2K Games to develop a new LEGO-themed racing game. While the game's title and release date have not yet been formally revealed, the trailer makes references to fictitious in-house brands like Octan, a familiar name to anyone who grew up playing some of LEGO's earliest videogames, such as LEGO Island or, curiously enough, LEGO Racers.

Unofficial leaks on Reddit, (including promotional images that were quickly taken down by 2K,) indicate that the anticipated title for the game will be LEGO 2K Drive, and is planned to put a primary emphasis on multiplayer racing. None of the leaked information has yet revealed whether the game will also include a career mode or other single-player content at launch. That said, the multiplayer gameplay has been described as being a:
Mario Kart-like spin on the classic LEGO racing games we all know and love.

Racers will likely be revved up to hear that LEGO and 2K are expected to reveal a full trailer for the game, as well as a trunkful of new concrete information, this coming Thursday, March 23rd. For those looking for a break from the tedious output of third-party IPs using the LEGO aesthetic, and looking for something reminiscent of LEGO's aforementioned earliest days in the gaming industry, LEGO 2K Drive may just scratch that longstanding itch.
